dselect works fine for me---it doesn't really care about the location
of the packages---and I would be suprised to find that any other
front-end breaks for the same reason: they shouldn't care where the
package is located.

Now if you're using something else as a backend, maybe dpkg-ftp or
some such, it it's not written to be sufficiently smart, it might
break---but that would be the question as to why you're not using apt.
