Someone has been working on a FreeBSD style ports collection for linux for
a while. And as a LUG project I created a small distro based completely on
that ports collection, though I abandoned it after the demo because of my
love for debian ;)
http://linuxports.sourceforge.net
I personally ported over 200 apps after the basic linuxports collection,
and these included resolving dependencies, compiler optimizations, and a
small bit of package management for totally removing a package.
I am bringing this up because I would much like to aid in any
developement, wether it be a totally new aspect/design for a linux/debian
ports style collection or an addition to apt-get source.
If anyone decides to head this up keep me in mind. I'm busy with a move
from Detroit,MI to Lexington,KY as well as starting a new job etc...etc..
to get deeply involved at the moment, but I'd still love to get involved
in this.
