ITP: libpam-krb5 - PAM module for MIT Kerberos 5
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
So, now that MIT krb5 packages have been installed, people may want a
PAM module. There is already a PAM module for Heimdal, and if you
want to install both sets of Kerberos libraries you can actually use
this module against a MIT KDC. However, parts of Heimdal conflict
with parts of the MIT packages, so some systems will not be able to
have both sets of libraries installed. Thus, for basic services like PAM and SASL, it will be important to support both Kerberos implementations.
Note that since they are actually different codebases and may have
vendor-specific extentions to RFC1510 or its successor so you might
actually have reasons for preferring linking against one
implementation or another even if both could be installed on the same
system.
I plan to use the same PAM module sources that Brian May used for his
Heimdal package, at least initially. I also talked to him about the
name of the package and he said libpam-krb5 would be OK.
Naturally, I willcoordinate with Brian (heimdal maintainer) and Greg
Stark (kerberos4kth maintainer) on Debian Kerberos issues, trying to
minimize conflicts and interoperability.
