I did not change anything in the startup code. I.e. I use gdm and let gdm
start the gnome session by executing /etc/gdm/Sessions/Gnome. Since I do
have helix and stormix listed in my sources.list file this is probably not
the Debian package. Let's see:
mme@feivel:~$ dpkg -l gnome-core
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name           Version        Description
+++-==============-==============-============================================
ii gnome-core 1.2.1-helix.ha Common files for Gnome core apps

Yes, it's the Stromix one.

If it was a race I wonder which programs are executed in an incorrect order.
If I start icewm-gnome manually after the system came up with the error
message all works well except that icewm-gnome changes the background and
creates its own task bar as listed in .icewmrc. If however the desktop comes
up without an error message (about one time out of three) I do not get
icewm's background or taskbar.
