Once you start with an epoch you are forced to keep it forever because > 1:2.2.17 > 2.2.18. you are not correct in this case since kernel-image-2.2.17 and kernel-image-2.2.18 are completely seperate packages (the -2.2.17 is part of the name *not* the version number). you don't upgrade kernel-image-2.2.17 to kernel-image-2.2.18, you just install the kernel-image-2.2.18 package. this is why apt-get never tries to upgrade a kernel from 2.2.16 to 2.2.17 for example. -- Ethan Benson http://www.alaska.net/~erbenson/
