it's not just the font, but also the boot logo, which turns all sorts of
strange colors on my 1M Trident TGUI 9440 after the kernel is finished
booting and init starts.  admittedly, this is just a crappy old 486, so
maybe most people don't have this problem. 

anyway, I'm cool with whatever choice the boot-floppies folks make.  they
have enough else to worry about than to be nit-picked on little things
like this.
