There will allways be hardware which is supported in 3.3 but not in 4.0.
This is especially true for old hardware (like the good old et4000 cards).

There is nearly no point in converting these drivers to xfree 4 because
they can't use the benefits of the new driver architecture (multihead
does'nt work with ISA-VGAs, they have no video scaler either, ...).
Often none of the active xfree86 developers has such hardware to test
stuff on, which makes things even harder.  And you have never enouth
time to code all the stuff you want...

Bottom line:  IMHO there is no way around including the 3.3.6 X-Servers
into future debian releases.
