Yes this is fine. I have some of these issues sorted out already in my
packaging (eg I parse /sbin/MAKEDEV to get the Debian default permissions
for most devices).

I think I'll upload my current packaging to experimental so that people can
decide what they think of the packaging solution before I upload it to
unstable.
