Today, Jules Bean, spilled the beans:

OK Ok ok.. I was wrong. The package documentation does tell in great
detail how to get the device3dfx-module installed. I also understand that
this package will soon be obsoleted, but in the meanwhile...

A few points of advice:

 - tell the user in some way to check out
   /usr/share/docs/device3dfx-source/README.Debian during or post install.
( hmmm, a system of mailing users post install could be interesting,
but undebianish as we don't know that they use mail )
 - Can't the setup attempt to compile the package and install it (after
prompting)? Might have a problem running dpkg from within a dpkg
   spawned shell though.
 - The dependencies will still make it very hard for a person to install
libglide2-v3, perhaps the Description for libglide2-v3 (and other
   libglides?) should say:

"You will need to install the device3dfx-source package prior to
installing this, read the documentation for it in
/usr/share/doc/device3dfx-source/README.Debian as it will tell you how
to create the device3dfx-module package necessary for installation of
this package. Then come back and install me." or the likes there of.

I should have looked further to begin with, but should I have to look
further?
