Since nobody have answered you, I will.(I'm not a debian developer) You should try the debian-user, or debian-www mailing lists, if your problem remains debian-specific. Six months ago I wanted apache-ssl with jserv, php3 running on a server, and I had to recompile things. Things are not perfect with apache, but it is hard to make perfect packages. Maybe debian people using apache for work compile their own versions too. Tamas
