  I wonder if it would be possible for the good folks at themes.org to set
up CGI scripts (or PHP or whatever they use) to autoconvert themes in their
database to package formats?  This would catch the problem at the source, and
since scripts exist to do the conversion, it should be fairly simple [1].

  [1] these scripts might require a working Debian installation though, so
     they might need some work.. :(
