Neither, because those domain names will be virtual and point to a different
directory tree with symlinks in the real tree. Because we only need links
near the root of the file system, the number of needed links would be small.

Both would look the same, but official.debian.org would have no non-free and
contrib symlinks. This is only a suggestion, other people have more
knowledge about archivs and mirroring.

The dinstall process etc would not need to be touched at all.

How would this change? I did not propose any internal changes, just how it
looks to the outside. If I choose non-free.debian.org, I get the same as
currently ftp.debian.org. If I choose official.debian.org, I get still the
same but without contrib/non-free. What effort do you mean?

To me both look equal. Both have even the same number of characters in their
hostname.
