Thanks to David Starner <dvdeug@x8b4e53cd.dhcp.okstate.edu> for
trying this on a more recent g++ and pointing out that it now
compiles with g++ (1:2.95.2-0pre3).  Although I wrote that I
tried with g++ (1:2.95.2-0pre3) in my message above, it turns out
I had pre2 installed.

Many thanks to David Starner for the head-ups and for not flaming
me to death.
