GnuPG problems
I'm having problems with GnuPG.
I generated a key, and on 5th October this key was in both secret and
public keyrings, and today still is in the secret keyring:
$ gpg --list-secret-keys --with-fingerprint
/home/olly/.gnupg/secring.gpg
-----------------------------
sec 1024D/3E1D0C1C 1999-06-02 Oliver Elphick <olly@lfix.co.uk>
Key fingerprint = CA12 09E0 E8D5 8870 5839 932A 614D 4C34 3E1D 0C1C
uid Oliver Elphick <Oliver.Elphick@lfix.co.uk>
ssb 1024g/B6140001 1999-06-02
At some stage, between then and 7th October, I have somehow replaced the
public key with my PGP key (and that seems to be the one I sent to
keyring-maint, because the installer is rejecting packages signed with
the gpg key):
$ gpg --fingerprint Elphick
pub 1024R/32B8FAA1 1997-03-25 Oliver Elphick <Oliver.Elphick@lfix.co.uk>
Key fingerprint = 97 EA 1D 47 72 3F 28 47 6B 7E 39 CC 56 E4 C1 47
The backup file still contains the key:
$ gpg --with-fingerprint --keyring ~/.gnupg/pubring.gpg\~ --no-default-keyring
--list-public-keys elphick
pub 1024R/32B8FAA1 1997-03-25 Oliver Elphick <Oliver.Elphick@lfix.co.uk>
Key fingerprint = 97 EA 1D 47 72 3F 28 47 6B 7E 39 CC 56 E4 C1 47
pub 1024D/3E1D0C1C 1999-06-02 Oliver Elphick <olly@lfix.co.uk>
Key fingerprint = CA12 09E0 E8D5 8870 5839 932A 614D 4C34 3E1D 0C1C
sub 1024g/B6140001 1999-06-02
1. Is it possible to recover the public key out of the backup file without
overwriting everything else?
2. How could the key have been deleted?
