I have not tried the patches for Oracle but I have been having some
success lately using alien on .deb's. Oracle 8i is now available for
download and it requires glibc2.1. It installed nicely except that I
had to edit their install script to change where it looked for Java.
The installer is Java and I suspect that with a CD where the script can
not be edited it might be difficult to install.
