Note that Oracle for Linux 8.0.5.0.0 is compiled against glibc2.0 (I believe
version 2.0.7, specifically) and will break badly (lots of segfaults) under
glibc2.1. There is a 'patch' on their FTP site[1] that basically includes
instructions for installing an older 'compat' compiler and libraries under
RH6.0 and re-linking the Oracle executables against the old libraries. There
is also a page[2] with a step-by-step procedure for installing the 'patch'.
I have not even tried to get such a setup working on a Debian system yet. Can
anyone offer any advice about setting up a 'compatibility' build environment to
make this work? Are the RPMs likely to do the right thing? I know of no plans
by Oracle to release a glibc2.1-compatible update in the near future.
