I'd like to second this idea. In most cases is very little extra trouble
for the developer to compile packages for two releases of Debian. Once a
release is stable, there could be an additional APT source for packages
which stay current with upstream, but are compiled for stable. It would
be even better if policy enforced (instead of suggested) a versioning
format for these packages. Something like what's already suggested, e.g.
xserver-svga_3.3.3.1-1slink.deb.

This would be very handy for those of us who run Debian in production
shops, and need things like the latest version of sendmail, but compiled
for stable. It would be nice for home too.
