You're right: it shouldn't be reported as an error. I believe that
it's been corrected in the alpha version of the upstream sources, but
I'm not certain about that. I might try hacking the current Debian
version for the next release, but I'm expecting 2.4 to be released
fairly soon.
Also, the dead pipe is due to an annoying read/write command which has
been fixed in the 2.3.X alpha releases. It doesn't actually appear to
cause any harm.
