/* * Cc'd to -devel in the hopes of a few more testers */ Good morning Jim, Our operatives in the Western United States have uncovered a method to bypass proprietary software distribution lockouts which have thwarted our attempts to distribute the Glide 3D graphics library as part of the Debian distribution. They have created new installation packages which are capible of utilizing the already available Red Hat packages to install Glide on a Debian system properly. They were, however, unable to finish testing their work because they did not have the necessary 3Dfx hardware. Specifically, they require testing of both the Voodoo Graphics and Voodoo 2 versions of Glide and contact from some person who happens to have a Voodoo Rush card. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to test the existing Glide packages and report any problems you encounter. If you have a Voodoo Rush card or are immediately aware of anyone who does, you are to report to Lt. Carter in California. The following apt line has been designated for your use: deb http://www.debian.org/%7Eknghtbrd/ quake/ Currently this location contains only the two Glide installers, however test versions of Quake will find their way into this directory as they become available, including of course QuakeWorld and additional utilities. Be also advised that within the next 48 hours a discussion will begin on the list quake-maint@icarus2.soark.net concerning serious changes to Debian's quake packages, including the probable creation of a quake1-base package which will make the various Quake and QuakeWorld packages easier to maintain without having to upload new versions of quake-lib (which is an 8 meg package) to do so. Also to be discussed will be what changes to make. You are of course invited and encouraged to take part in this discussion if you choose to do so and may subscribe to the list by sending a message to quake-maint-request@icarus2.soark.net with a subject of "Subscribe" sans quotes. As always, if any member(s) of your Debian Cabal force are caught or killed, the Debian Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions or the existance of the Secret Debian Cabal (since, after all, there is no cabal.) This message will self destruct in five seconds.
