a utmp/wtmp question

With the release of a new version of rxvt that uses the unix98 ptys,
rxvt no longer needs to be setuid root. It can instead be made setgid
tty if the utmp/wtmp files are owned by the tty group and made group
writable.

How should this be handled? Currently on my system (running the
unstable distribution), the utmp/wtmp files are owned by root.root and
are mode 644. What should be done to correct this? Should rxvt's
postinst script offer to change the modes of these files or should that
be done elsewhere by another package?

Thanks,
Brian
