drew@bottomless:~$ locate JOKES
/usr/share/emacs/19.34/etc/JOKES
/usr/share/emacs/20.3/etc/JOKES

drew@bottomless:~$ dpkg -S `locate JOKES` 
emacs19: /usr/share/emacs/19.34/etc/JOKES
emacs20: /usr/share/emacs/20.3/etc/JOKES

You only get to read the emacs-bashing jokes if you have it installed
