If it has space, I'd say put Debian on one partition and UP 1.19 on
another, so we can, if we need a reference system, run UP in a
chrooted environment. (I've found it kinda handy to keep a RH
partition around to check symbols in the libraries, etc.) If
necessary, you could run sshd on a different port in the chrooted
environment to give easy access to both trees to normal users.

I've _very_ happy with how slink turned out. Back in January, I had
pretty much written off ultra support in slink, but Eric showed some
interest in adding support to boot floppies, so I went ahead an pushed
the Ultra changes into the distribution and did the CD stuff.

oh. We definitely want debian on xia03, then. It looks to be the
best system to compile stuff on.

If anybody is looking for sparc stuff to do:

  Compile missing packages.

1.Go through the latest Ultrapenguin looking for "egcs" and "binutils"
patches for "lib64" stuff. I'm told that the support is already in
some of the build tools in UltraPenguin, and some preliminary sparc64
stuff will be available this summer.

2.Make sure Branden's new X code compiles on the Sparc - then merge in
all the changes from UltraPenguin, and the changes in the packages at:

(These are huge speed improvements for Creator boards - they will be
  folded into UltraPenguin RSN.)

I am going to take a break for a bit from the core system stuff. I
have other work that I need to get done. I see that Ben Collins is
working on glibc, and I hope someone can take a look at X. (If not,
I'll do it eventually.)

I will have another go at the gnome 1.0 stuff when it slows down (most
of it is compiled and uploaded, but they keep incrementing the debian
revision numbers due to miscompiles on x86). FWIW, I just uploaded
apt 0.3.3 to Incoming on master, and "gnome-apt" to the gnome staging

If you guys haven't checked it out already, do look at the sparc gnome
stuff, the apt magic is:

deb http://www.debian.org/~jules/gnome-stage-2 unstable main

It runs fine on slink.
