The problem is that CDDB is now owned by a company that is becoming
increasingly protective of the database and format (e.g. to the point
where the GPL is irrelvant because to use CDDB you have to agree
to all sorts of conditions). 

Rather than continue to use CDDB it may be simpler to create a new
format and use it instead.  The new format is better than CDDB in theory
anyway, it allows different authors for different tracks and seems to
have room for alternate ways of identifying discs.
