That's a feature, not a bug -- the new perl needs new extensions anyway.

I could go into some detail here on the details of a reasonable Perl
directory layout, but I don't want to duplicate Zephaniah's work.
Zephaniah, could you please spell out the different locations for
extension shared libs, other modules (like libwww-perl), and standard
modules distributed with Perl?
