Well, you've been able to access all public Debian mailing lists through
Dejanews for at least as long as I've been a developer.

I think Christoph Lameter runs a mail-to-USENET gateway for the lists.

IIRC, many months ago someone (I don't remember if it was Christoph) was
asked to stop doing this and they absolutely refused.

Or perhaps I am misunderstanding the problem.  What do you mean by
"unrestricted distribution"?  It seems hardly USENET group limits its
Distribution: anymore.
