Since I *always* scratch /etc/init.d/network anyway and rewrite
it from scratch, this may come handy.

I noticed, too, that the current 2.2 kernels are quite
troublesome with the network routes. Where you could have
a "route add -net 1.2.3.0 dev eth0" before now the netmask
is needed...

So a "clean" network.conf would not be a bad idea. But, please,
don't do as the SuSE folks did it. BAD...
