I, and others, have already proposed a simple solution: add a command-line
option to disable rpath.  A *better* solution would be to disable it where
it is not needed.

Those programs broke compatibility.  By using rpath, they were specifically
asking to NOT be compatible.  This could be desirable in some cases, but
only in special cases, and not in general.
