Simple. Slink isn't 2.1 yet, and potato isn't 2.2 yet.

As of right now you have to specify 'slink' or 'frozen' to get slink, so
ordinary users don't ever run into this issue.

Of course, it will be changed before release. If you want to make 100% sure
this is done, feel free to file an important bug against base-files.

Seeing as they've gotten it right for every release yet, I don't think it's
worth worrying about.
