The default compiler should be allways 'cc'.
Under debian that is a link to /etc/alternatives/ and then back to
gcc. (current setup).
Why should that change? Anyone can change the cc to point to his
favourite compiler and if a Package doesn't work with any c compiler
it must be fixed or it must check for gcc.
