That is touchy, but you could think of it that if they are not there, an
NMU is in the best interest of the stable distribution. Any person on
vacation also (usually) states that bug fixing NMU's are acceptible while
away. Any maintainer should be willing to understand the importance of the
NMU to fix bugs while they were unable to do so.
