Proposed (again) debian-legal
Some weeks ago, someone proposed we create the list debian-copyright. It
was then suggested to widen the scope of the new list, and call it
debian-legal.
I saw no objections, and I think this is a good idea. The principal reason
is to lessen the traffic on -devel - which is increasingly becoming almost
impossible to keep up with for many people.
The debian-legal group would be intended for dicussions of legal issues
pertaining to the Debian group, including but not limited to, discussions of
various copyright licenses and whether they are DFSG free, as well as
discussion of products with ambiguous licenses which may or may not even
allow us to distribute them in non-free. Other possible topics would be
trademarking, legal support (although that's really an SPI issue...), and so
on.
If I do not receive objections to this idea, I will ask the listmasters to
create the list. (We have a formal procedure for policy modifications, now,
but AFAIK there is no formal procedure for lists? Unless mailing list
charters are considered part of policy, which I don't believe they are...)
