Have you solved this one yet. Just to re-iterate: Can log in as normal user. Cannot log in as root (except in single user/maintainace mode). - this includes su-ing to root. The machine just sits there after a root login, no messages, nothing. Cannot connect to the machine (from localhost or from other puters on the network). What is going on???!!!!
