SMTP doesn't *need* address rewrites. UUCP and the like do, but SMTP
doesn't. Certainly, RFC 821 doesn't use the term "rewrite".
Also, once you've solved the SMTP mail routing problem, perl is a dandy
language for dealing with any requirements rewriting message headers
and the like.
