dpkg & autoconf
It should be possible to build dpkg on non-debian systems using:
./configure && make
It's not.
I seem to recall filing a bug report on this, only to have it closed
because the autoconf, etc. steps were "required" by dpkg. But, I
don't see anything on this subject filed against autoconf (nor
automake, libtool, ...).
Anyone know what's up with this situation?
I'm tempted to file another bug report against dpkg, with the suggestion
that the bug be re-assigned to the appropriate package if "it's not a
dpkg issue". Or is there some reason to avoid this approach?
