[oh, poop. This was sent to the wrong address for debian-devel at
first, so I've resent, and cc'd to wnpp, which will get two copies.
Live and learn.]
Hi.
After finding the one last piece of Free Software that ensures that I
never have to use Microsoft Word ever again, I've decided to package it.
diction is available from
ftp://cantor.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/unix/diction.tar.gz.
from the GNU website, http://www.gnu.org/software/diction/diction.html:
Diction and style are two old standard UNIX commands. Diction
identifies wordy and commonly misused phrases. Style analyses surface
characteristics of a document, including sentence length and other
readability measures.
These programs cannot help you structure a document well, but they
can help to avoid poor wording and compare the readability (not the
understandability!) of your documents with others. Both commands
support English and German documents.
from the README:
This is the snapshot release 0.6 beta of GNU diction and style,
free implementations of old standard unix commands. For some
reason, many modern systems lack them. Diction prints wordy and
commonly misused phrases. Style analyses surface characteristics
of a document, e.g. sentence length and various readability measures.
This package should be available in a week or two, as soon as I have a
few minor issues worked out.
Cheers,
