yes, that worked for me, too.  (i also modified my /etc/resolv.conf to
make sure that non-fully-qualified domains definitely failed, by
adding the line `domain .').

btw, i didn't get a simple fetchmail failure out of this: exim resent
*all* my mail to johnl@localhost.com!  luckily i caught it in time to
not lose much mail.
