	or calc (from apcalc), or aribas, or perldl,
	or gap or rpncalc or yorick (I'm sure I missed some)

	They will do arithmetic at the command line. But some are
certainly overkill, and have a big startup time.

	I have this in my fvwm2 menu.  It comes up quite quickly

	rxvt -T Bc -e bc -l
