Mirror List
I would like to update my mirror list to something more machine friendly.
The orginal version some of you know was designed as an example for APT.
My new concept follows along the idea of a package file and attempts to
encode alot of information to allow the user to make the best selection.
An example is included below. Obviosly not all sites will be able to
provide all information, but not all sites would have to. It would be
possible to directly transcribe the existing mirror list and extend it
as we learn more.
Does everyone think this is a sensible setup? We could also include a
Descrption field and a Sponsor field which should give our generous mirror
providers some exposure.
I will need some help to create the initial list, after tha maint should
not be hard and I can probably manage.
There is another feild I would include, Archive-Parts that would be
automatically generated to include what things are mirrored, stable,
unstable, sid, non-free, non-us etc. This would be automatically generated
via a http/ftp probe for the release file.
And again, if you run a mirror off master email me so it can be converted
to a push rsync mirror.
