(1) I believe, at the moment, we're leaving it up to the ftp site
maintainer(s) to make this decision. Our KDE maintainer has agreed
to fix the problem so for at least the KDE packages it's not a burning
issue on that count. There are some other packages which are GPLed and
linked with Motif -- that is also a nono, since we are not Solaris.

(2) The official vote process requires a bit more than a suggestion to
debian-devel to get rolling. [But I'm not sure if the voting mechanism
is up yet.]

(3) Of course, we should not have any non-free software on our official
cdroms, and I don't think we should have any software which depends on
non-free software on these cdroms. I think this should take care of
most of our risk from problems with unlicensed distribution of GPLed code.

(4) I don't think the "people put a lot of work into this" argument
holds when the software is being distributed without a license. We may
have sorted out the problem for the case of kde, but we have a lot of
non-kde software in contrib which is GPLed. [Including a small bit with
the kde label on it.]

If anyone thinks I'm way off base on this, please try and be precise in
explaining where I went wrong.
