This is apparently untrue. I asked Miguel and Federico about it and Miguel
asked me to forward this:

-------------- Begin forwarded message

Hello Havoc,

The rumours are false. Federico is working for
Red Hat and I am going to Red Hat for a developer meeting,
but I am still employed by the University in Mexico and I
will at some time this year move to California to work for
Cobal Networks (another Linux company, the guys that do the
cobal qube, the network appliance).

Oh, on the other hand: there are plenty of people working
on GNOME outside of Red Hat: The Hungry Programmers are
a very active team, and anyone that has been in gimpnet will
know that there are a lot of other developers involved. Which
is a good thing.

Miguel

-------------- End

Miguel is the project leader, so it is significant that he's not being
hired. He is also correct IMO that there are a lot of non-Red Hat
developers.

If Debian wants to take advantage of Gnome, it wouldn't really be hard.
The help browser could easily be made aware of the doc hierarchy, and an
Apt frontend like the Gnome rpm program probably wouldn't be too
difficult.
