Yes. No, sort of[1]. Yes.
There was already a patch for xdm-posted on this list it works very good
for me.

[1] variables requiring shell expansion (e.g. PGPPATH=$HOME/.pgp) need
to be expanded again in the shell (but this shouldn't occur with
well written programs ;)
