In the file "install.txt", found in the disks directory on the FTP
site, it states:

  Replacing the Kernel

   If you find it necessary to replace the kernel on the Rescue Floppy,
   you must configure your new kernel with these features linked in, not
   in loadable modules:
     * Initial RAM disk.
     * MSDOS, Minix, and EXT2 filesystems.
     * ELF executables.

   Copy your new kernel to the file "linux" on the Rescue Floppy, and
   then run the shell script "rdev.sh" that you'll find on the floppy.

It's probably best to make sure your homebrew kernel is the same version
as the one that was on the rescue disk. I've noticed module weirdness
if you don't do this. Alternatively, you could make sure you link in
everything you need from the start and forget about modules altogether.

Cheers,
