Overlaps between hamm and bo

I have made a new list of overlaps between packages in hamm and packages
in bo, and tried to filter out the ones that are not problematic.
(For example, because they use diversions).

My scripts for this are not always accurate, they're a bit old and
creaky. Unfortunately, there are too many overlaps (55) in this list
to investigate them all.

Please let me know if you find ones that you think are incorrect.

In each case, the effect of an overlap is that someone who has the bo
package installed cannot install the hamm package without getting an
error message from dpkg. The release plan was to disable this check
in dpkg again before the release, but to fix the overlaps anyway. I
don't know if that has changed.

At Juan Cespedes's suggestion, I have added the maintainer name to
each entry. That should make it easier for maintainers to check if
their packages are listed here.

The overlaps are in alphabetical order.

In most cases there are four possible ways to fix the overlap:
    - If the hamm package does not need these files, or should install
them in different locations, then that should be done.
    - If the bo package is obsolete, then an unversioned "Conflicts"
      header is probably best.
    - If the bo package will not be broken by overwriting the files
with the ones from the hamm package, then a versioned "Replaces"
      header is appropriate.
    - Otherwise, a versioned "Conflicts" header is needed. This is
often the case with shared libraries, because of the libc5/libc6
      conversion.

I don't know if Brian White will still accept such fixes in hamm.
Are overlaps important enough? Brian, can you make an official statement?

Overlap hamm/blt4.2 2.3-1 and bo/blt2 2.1-6:
Maintainer: Gordon Russell <g.russell@dcs.napier.ac.uk>
   usr/lib/libBLT.so.2
Since blt2 is obsolete, I suggest a "Conflicts: blt2" for blt4.2.

Overlap hamm/blt4.2 2.3-1 and bo/blt 2.1-5:
Maintainer: Gordon Russell <g.russell@dcs.napier.ac.uk>
   usr/lib/libBLT.so.2
Since blt is obsolete, I suggest a "Conflicts: blt" for blt4.2.
(Together with the above, that would make "Conflicts: blt, blt2")

Overlap hamm/cvs-pcl 1.9.26-3 and bo/xemacs-support 19.14-1:
Maintainer: Tom Lees <tom@lpsg.demon.co.uk>

Maintainer: Daniel Martin <fizbin@debian.org>
   usr/X11R6/include/X11/pixmaps/shutdown.xpm

Overlap hamm/gmp 2.0.2-3 and bo/libc5-dev 5.4.33-3:
Maintainer: Dale Scheetz <dwarf@polaris.net>

Maintainer: Gregor Hoffleit <flight@debian.org>
   usr/doc/gstep-base/changelog.Debian.gz
   usr/doc/gstep-base/copyright

Overlap hamm/info 3.9-5 and bo/xemacs-support 19.14-1:
Maintainer: Galen Hazelwood <galenh@micron.net>

Overlap hamm/inn 1.7.2-3 and bo/inewsinn 1.5.1-2:
Maintainer: Miquel van Smoorenburg <miquels@cistron.nl>

Maintainer: Bernd Eckenfels <ecki@debian.org>
   usr/lib/irc/script/[lots]

Overlap hamm/javalex 1.1.5-1.1 and bo/java-lex 1.1.4-1:
Maintainer: Michael Fletcher <zidj@geocities.com>
   usr/bin/javalex
java-lex has been dropped from hamm because it is an old version of
javalex. javalex should conflict & replace java-lex.

Overlap hamm/lapack 2.0.1-1 and bo/lapack-doc 2.0.1-1:
Maintainer: Sue Campbell <sacampbe@mercator.math.uwaterloo.ca>
   usr/man/man3/lapack.3.gz
There is a lapack-doc 2.0.1-2 in hamm which does not include the
manpage.

Overlap hamm/libatalk-dev 1.4-1.4b2-5 and bo/libatalk14 1.4b2-4:
Maintainer: Joel Klecker <jk@espy.org>

   usr/man/man4/atalk.4.gz

Overlap hamm/libc6-dbg 2.0.7pre1-4 and bo/libc5-dbg 5.4.33-3:
Maintainer: Dale Scheetz <dwarf@polaris.net>
   usr/lib/libc_p.a
libc6-dbg provides and conflicts with "libc-dbg", but the libc5-dbg in bo
does not provide that. libc6-dbg should also have an explicit conflict
with libc5-dbg.

Overlap hamm/libc6-dev 2.0.7pre1-4 and bo/bind 4.9.5-1.4:
Maintainer: Dale Scheetz <dwarf@polaris.net>
   usr/lib/libresolv.a
I presume that libresolv.a disappeared from bind when it was converted
to libc6, but the changelog doesn't say when. To be safe, I'd pick
the "Security release" version and add a Replaces: bind (<= 4.9.6-1)
to libc6-dev. YMMV.

Overlap hamm/libc6-dev 2.0.7pre1-4 and bo/oldmitpthreads 0.0:
Maintainer: Dale Scheetz <dwarf@polaris.net>

Overlap hamm/libmagick4-dev 4.0.4-3 and bo/libmagick-lzw-dev 3.8.2-1:
Maintainer: Scott K. Ellis <scott@debian.org>
   usr/X11R6/lib/libMagick.so
libmagick4-dev already conflicts with and replaces libmagick-dev and
imagemagick-dev. It should do the same with libmagick-lzw-dev.

Overlap hamm/libmagick4-lzw-dev 4.0.4-3 and bo/libmagick-lzw-dev 3.8.2-1:
Maintainer: Scott K. Ellis <scott@debian.org>
   usr/X11R6/lib/libMagick.so

Overlap hamm/libpthread0-dev 0.6-1 and bo/oldmitpthreads 0.0:
Maintainer: Michael Alan Dorman <mdorman@debian.org>
   usr/include/pthread.h
libpthread0-dev is for libc5, and libc6 already includes pthreads.
Presumably this package is going to disappear.

Overlap hamm/librx1g-dev 1.5-5 and bo/rx-dev 1.5-1:
Maintainer: James Troup <jjtroup@comp.brad.ac.uk>
   usr/include/rx/_rx.h

Overlap hamm/lincity-svga 1.09-3 and bo/lincity 1.03-2:
Maintainer: John Goerzen <jgoerzen@complete.org>
   usr/games/lincity
lincity-svga needs to declare a Replaces: lincity (<< 1.09-1) to
ensure a smooth upgrade from bo. Simply depending on lincity (>=
1.09-1) will not work because dpkg unpacks before checking
dependencies.

Overlap hamm/lpr 5.9-26.1 and bo/apsfilter 4.9.1-10:
Maintainer: Adam Klein <aklein@debian.org>
   etc/printcap
apsfilter was dropped from hamm.
I recommend that lpr conflict with apsfilter (<<4.9.1-10). That way,
it will be impossible to install the broken apsfilter, but if ever
someone picks it out of project/orphaned and fixes it, the fixed
version can be installed.

Overlap hamm/lprng-doc 3.4.1-1 and bo/lprng 3.2.1-1:
Maintainer: Sven Rudolph <sr1@inf.tu-dresden.de>
   usr/doc/lprng/Intro.ps.gz
   usr/doc/lprng/Intro.txt.gz
   usr/doc/lprng/LPRng-LISA95.ps.gz
   usr/doc/lprng/README.solaris.gz
   usr/doc/lprng/Tutorial.ps.gz
   usr/doc/lprng/Tutorial.txt.gz
   usr/doc/lprng/Using_stty.txt.gz
   usr/doc/lprng/rfc1179.txt.gz

Overlap hamm/lprng 3.4.2-3 and bo/apsfilter 4.9.1-10:
Maintainer: Sven Rudolph <sr1@inf.tu-dresden.de>
   etc/printcap
apsfilter was dropped from hamm.
I recommend that lpr conflict with apsfilter (<<4.9.1-10). That way,
it will be impossible to install the broken apsfilter, but if ever
someone picks it out of project/orphaned and fixes it, the fixed
version can be installed.

Overlap hamm/manpages-dev 1.19-1 and bo/ldso 1.8.10-2:
Maintainer: Nicolás Lichtmaier <nick@feedback.net.ar>
   usr/man/man3/dlclose.3.gz
   usr/man/man3/dlerror.3.gz
   usr/man/man3/dlopen.3.gz
   usr/man/man3/dlsym.3.gz
manpages-dev replaces bind (<<4.9.3-P1-2), manpages (<= 1.15-4),
                      libdl1-dev (<=1.9.5-1)
                but not ldso (<= 1.8.10-2).
However, this is not really a problem because anyone upgrading from
bo to hamm will start by upgrading ldso.

Overlap hamm/mgetty-viewfax 1.1.14-1 and bo/mgetty-fax 1.1.2-1:
Maintainer: Philip Hands <phil@hands.com>
   usr/bin/viewfax
   usr/lib/viewfax.tif
   usr/man/man1/viewfax.1.gz

Overlap hamm/mgetty-voice 1.1.14-1 and bo/mgetty 1.1.2-1:
Maintainer: Philip Hands <phil@hands.com>
   usr/man/man1/pvf.1.gz
   usr/man/man1/zplay.1.gz
mgetty-voice depends on mgetty. I expect that these files were moved
to mgetty-voice at some point, perhaps when the package was created.
mgetty-voice should declare that it replaces files from versions of
mgetty that still have these manpages. (Perhaps << 1.1.7-1?)

Overlap hamm/msql 2.0.3-3 and bo/libmsql1 1.0.16-6:
Maintainer: Martin Schulze <joey@debian.org>
   usr/doc/msql/copyright

Overlap hamm/ncurses3.4-dbg 1.9.9g-8 and bo/ncurses3.0-dev 1.9.9e-1:

   usr/lib/libform_g.a
   usr/lib/libmenu_g.a
   usr/lib/libncurses_g.a
   usr/lib/libpanel_g.a
These packages conflict indirectly but that is not enough.

Overlap hamm/netatalk-asun 2.0a18.2-3.1.1 and bo/libatalk-dev 1.4b2-4:
Maintainer: Jonathon D. Nelson <nels0988@tc.umn.edu>

xemacs-support has branched into xemacs-support19 and xemacs-support20.
I can offer no suggestions about this overlap.

Overlap hamm/python-base 1.5-1 and bo/python-doc 1.4.0-4:

Overlap hamm/svgalib-dummyg1 1:1.2.13-2 and bo/svgalib1-dev 1:1.2.10-4:

   usr/include/vga.h

svgalib-dummyg1 conflicts with svgalibg1, svgalibg1-dev, svgalib1,
svgalib1-altdev, and svgalib-dummy1. It looks like svgalib1-dev
should be added to that list.

Overlap hamm/svgalibg1-dev 1:1.2.13-3.1 and bo/svgalib1 1:1.2.10-4:

   usr/lib/libvgagl.so.1
svgalibg1 conflicts with svgalib1 (<< 1:1.2.11-1)
svgalib-dummy1 provides svgalib1
But the versioned conflict does not work for a virtual package. An
extra conflict with svgalib-dummy1 (<< 1.2.11-1) should fix it.

Overlap hamm/tetex-extra 0.9-5 and bo/tetex-base 0.4pl6-5:

tetex-extra depends on tetex-base. Presumably these files were moved
from tetex-base to tetex-extra at some point. If tetex-extra conflicts
with versions of tetex-base << that version, bo users can upgrade
smoothly.

Overlap hamm/xviewg-dev 3.2p1.4-3 and bo/xview 3.2p1.3-2:
Maintainer: Martin Buck <mbuck@debian.org>

   usr/X11R6/lib/libxview.so
