dpkg, dselect are BROKEN
I'm trying to bring my hamm system into sync with the master (soon to be
code-frozen) archives so I can fix a few bug reports on my packages.
I'm getting these from dselect when I hit "install"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
an't locate Net/Config.pm in @INC (@INC contains:

Press RETURN to continue.

So I tried downloading a new copy of perl and perl-base, and figured I'd
install them and see if the problem is fixed. so I got this:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
rivendell[503] [~]> sudo dpkg -i perl-base_5.004.04-4.deb
dpkg-deb: `perl-base_5.004.04-4.deb' is not a debian format archive
dpkg: error processing perl-base_5.004.04-4.deb (--install):
subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
perl-base_5.004.04-4.deb

Happens with ALL of the packages I've tried. Help!
