Marking them executable serves no useful purpose, if you try to run them you
geta core dump. Good point about ld, go ahead and report that as a bug.

Well, either not compressed, or not executable, or possibly gzexe'd, though
that seems unecessary. Having an executable gzip file is meaningless; try
running it.
