Actually I think you argued pretty powerfully.  I'm even more
convinced that the default should probably be WvDial with the more
complex chat setup as an override option.  99% of the people will just
get connected, and not care.  The rest can learn chat.  It seems like
it only makes things better.  This also seems like a potentially big
win for people with laptops who travel and have to connect to various
service providers while on the road.

That said, I haven't used WvDial yet.  I think I'll try it on one of
my machines soon.
