Hi (happy new year)
I have just started updating my version of debian 1.2 to 1.3.1
by first ftping (ftp.usyd.edu.au:/linux/linux/debian) the important
packages in section base using dselect.
During the installation stage of these packages, dselect removed
(without my permission):
--- Removed and no longer available packages ---
----- Removed Important packages -----
------- Removed Important packages in section doc -------
--- Imp doc man 2.3.10-18 <none>
----- Removed Standard packages -----
------- Removed Standard packages in section non-free -------
--- Std non-free mfdcfnt 1.3p4-2 <none>
------- Removed Standard packages in section tex -------
--- Std tex dvipsk 5.58f-5 <none>
--- Std tex kpathsea 2.6-2 <none>
--- Std tex latex 2e-7 <none>
--- Std tex mfbin 2.71-4 <none>
--- Std tex mflib 1.0-8 <none>
--- Std tex texlib 1.0-5 <none>
----- Removed Optional packages -----
------- Removed Optional packages in section devel -------
--- Opt devel kernel-sourc 2 <none>
------- Removed Optional packages in section games -------
--- Opt games xtetris 2.6-3 <none>
------- Removed Optional packages in section sound -------
--- Opt sound multimedia 2.1-3 <none>
------- Removed Optional packages in section tex -------
--- Opt tex latex2e-doc 1.6-1 <none>
--- Opt tex ltxgraph 0.7b-1 <none>
--- Opt tex xdvik 18f-5 <none>
I also know of one other program, xmixer, not in the debian
distribution that was also removed during the installation.
I fear, other programs may have gone missing also. It really annoyed
when dselect removed my kernel source tree "/usr/src/linux" (it
should not have done this).
Am I reporting a bug or have I done something wrong?
How do I get back my Latex stuff etc?
And why does it say the above packages are no longer available?
