intent to package digiinfo and copyright question
Hi y' all
I want to package digiinfo. It is for the hamradio section.
Here a short description: DigiInfo was written as a little
tool for "showing the way" to Packet-Radio users.
However, it also shows some informations about the
mailboxes and nodes.
Digiinfo is NOT distributed under GPL, but something
similar, called ALAS (General Licence for Amateur Radio
Software). I have read the copying license, seems OK
to for debian. There is a saying about distributing
for non-commercial reasons only (section 3), but
section 4.3 states:
You shall not ask for any money exceeding the
actual costs for the media and postage when making
copies.
Here is the full copying license, can someone please
comment if it's OK? :
General Licence for Amateur Radio Software (ALAS)
This is the only official translation from
"Allgemeine Lizenz fuer Amateurfunk Software (ALAS)"
Copyright (C) 1993 NORD><LINK e.V.

This document may be copied and distributed freely as long as it is not
modified. Any suggestions how to improve it are appreciated.

1. Preface
This licence was made from the General Public Licence (Free Software
Foundation, GPL). I tried to keep the intentions and clarify some things.
Some topics have been deleted.
The reason for this licence is to protect both the author and the user
of amateur radio software. So some restrictions were necessary and also
some duties are put on anyone modifying or distributing software under
this licence.
To achieve this the software is protected by Copyright (IT IS NOT PUBLIC
DOMAIN SOFTWARE) and the user gets almost any chance to use it.
2. Scope
This licence applies to any Program or part of a package that refers to
this licence either in a signon message or in a file on the distribution disk.
"Program" is the program or any part of it, "You" are the licensee.
3. Your rights:
You may use or copy or modify or distribute the program as long as you
do it for non commercial reasons only.
4. Your duties:
4.1. You may not change the copyright notice and the reference to this
licence and they shall be clearly visible when starting the program.
4.2. You shall give anybody who receives a copy of this program the same
rights as you got and you shall impose the same duties on him.
4.3. You shall not ask for any money exceeding the actual costs for the
media and postage when making copies.
4.4. You shall only copy the complete program as you received it.
4.5. If you modify the program or parts of it or use it for your own
programs - verbatim or modified - the following shall apply for the
resulting new program:
4.5.1. You shall clearly indicate:
- your name and address and
- the fact that you modified the program or used parts of it.
4.5.2. You shall distribute the program either with the complete sourcecode
or shall give anybody on demand a copy of the sourcecode for a fee not
exceeding the actual costs for media and postage.
4.5.3. You shall not make any restrictions which exceed this licence.
5. Additional remarks
You receive this program without any warranty for functionality or fitness
for a particular purpose. You waive any claims for any reason.
By using the program you acknowledge this licence unconditionally.
