The bug tracking system as a knowledge base

Hi!

Some days ago I could grep out the solution to a problem from the bug
tracking system: "upgrade paxkage x to version y, dummy:.
Now I have another problem, and my bug mirror is temporarily gone.
What I have thought: If we had a way to search the bug tracking system
not just for packages or bug numbers but arbitrary strings ("wtmp" comes to
mind :), It would be of value for users and system administrators who don't
have a clue, like me :) And it would be of more value if the closed bugs
wouldn't get deleted after 28 (or how many?) days.

What is your opinion?
