I agree. After upgrading to 2.8.0 on several machines, I came to the same
conclusion. eg: if you manage to compile a kernel with gcc 2.8.0 the kernel
is slightly broken. X11 will immediatly coredump after start other programs
just go mad for no reason. Tested with 2.0.32/33 2.1.84. It seems, that the
hacker-kernels are even more effected.
Just my $.02 ... let's close this thread, as it does not belong here ;-)

PS: If gcc 2.8.0 is integrated into hamm ... we can _really_ call it
unstable ;->
